Major Recruitment is working in partnership with a well-established manufacturing client in Birmingham (B18) to recruit an experienced Fabrication Welder.

This is a fantastic temp-to-perm opportunity for skilled welders looking to work on high-quality products including:

  • Turnstiles
  • Security fencing and gates
  • Traffic barriers

Duties include:

  • MIG/TIG/Arc welding and fabricating aluminium mild and stainless steel
  • Working from engineering and fabrication drawings
  • Assembling and welding bespoke security products
  • Using hand tools, grinders, and fabrication machinery
  • Quality checking and adhering to safety standards

What we’re looking for:

  • MIG welding and fabrication experience (aluminium mild & stainless steel)

Role overview

We are looking for a reliable and experienced Manual Machinist to join one of our small, but vital, 4-person team in Coventry. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in producing high-quality components, with excellent knowledge of various manual machines. In addition to machining, the role will also require some general assembly work.

Key responsibilities

  • Machine Operation: Set up and operate various manual machining equipment, such as lathes, mills, and grinders, to fabricate precision parts from technical drawings and specifications.
  • Precision and Accuracy: Take precise measurements using tools like micrometers and calipers to ensure all parts meet required specifications and tight tolerances.
  • Assembly Work: Carry out general assembly and fitting tasks using hand tools and presses as required.
  • Quality Control: Perform first-off and in-process inspection of your own work, reporting any non-conforming parts immediately.
  • Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance on machines and equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with the small team to achieve production goals and contribute to a positive, efficient workshop environment.
  • Safety: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and maintain a clean, organized work area.

Skills and qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Manual Machinist is essential.
  • A high level of knowledge in operating manual lathes, mills, and other related machinery.

Controls and Automation Engineer

An exciting opportunity for a Controls and Automation Engineer is available a growing manufacturing company in the Newcastle area

EXCITING ROLE

The role will involve integrating sensor, machine learning and predictive analytics systems, managing electrical control and instrumentation projects, supporting the maintenance team and drive the adoption of digital industry technologies such as IoT, AI, ML etc. You will contribute to the strategic engineering roadmap and train maintenance staff on machine control systems.

You will also interpret, generate, and manage electrical engineering drawings and documentation (schematics, wiring diagrams, loop diagrams, SLDs, cable schedules, load schedules, IO lists, test schedules) and lead cross-functional project teams.

YOUR SKILLS

A Degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Automation, Control Systems or Mechatronics is preferred although good experience in a dedicated role of this field will also be considered. You will need to be familiar with BS:7671 18th Edition and have a good knowledge of PUWER, ATEX, EN IEC and BS EN 60204 standards. Experience with control systems (ideally Siemens TIA Portal or similar), motor control systems (MCCs, DOL, VFD, soft start), automation simulation software (ABB, Yaskawa etc.) and network protocols (PLC and LabVIEW) is needed. You will also need good problem solving and communication skills with experience of Six Sigma and lean manufacturing methodologies preferred

Any experience of C++, C#, Python, Solidworks or factory simulation software would be an advantage

  • Excellent knowledge of inspection equipment, including micrometres, Verniers, and standard gauging.

Duties and tasks will include:

  • Complete first off and last off checks using mechanical measuring equipment, acting as the release signatory for manufacturing components.
  • Run existing CMM programs on our Mitutoyo CNC CMM’s.
  • Have excellent communication skills and be able to relate inspection findings back to Engineers in a clear and concise manner.
  • Be able to read Engineering Drawings and have a working knowledge of Geometrical Dimensioning & Tolerancing.
  • Be able to work to inspection plans and use their own initiative to solve problems.

  • Ensure calibration of equipment is completed in a timely manner
